In what seems to be another breakthrough on black money, Goa police has seized 24 lakh in new notes at a beach villa in Calangute. This is the second incident after 69 lakh were seized by the I-T department from north Goa recently.
Reports say that the Calangute police conducted a raid on a group of people and seized the cash which was mostly in rs 2000 currency on Wednesday. Police gave a report to local media that three residents from Calangute we in the process of exchanging new notes with the old notes for a commission of 30%. When the raid happened the cash was in the car. The I-T department has been informed about the raid and will investigate the case further
The setup: Police said that they set the whole operation up, sending a decoy who placed a demand of 1 crore. But the gang said that such huge amount won’t be possible and settled for 24 lakh. They were then asked to come to Calangute to hand over the money, the police then took down the number of the car and intercepted the vehicle on arrival.
Police have not revealed the names of the accused saying the matter is still under investigation. This is the second illegal currency transaction incident in the state within 24 hours.
